From Buffalo Spree: Healing at B.A.T.

A thank you to Buffalo Spree for spotlighting Buffalo Alternative Therapies

Buffalo Alternative Therapies (B.A.T.) is a relatively new business specializing in community acupuncture and massage therapy. Contrary to what some may think, H is for healing, not hurting, when it comes to acupuncture. Having been treated at B.A.T., I can testify that the experience involves no pain and a great deal of relaxation. In fact, though I initially presented with repetitive stress syndrome in my hand (ah, the trials and tribulations of a freelance writer), I have to admit that my acupuncture sessions often feel like a luxurious escape from responsibility.

While the experience at B.A.T. is luxurious, the prices are not. Their business model emphasizes affordability for alternative healing, and there is a sliding scale fee of $15 to $40 per acupuncture session. One of the ways that B.A.T. keeps their overhead low is by offering treatment in a group setting. So the acupuncture you’ll receive is primarily “elbows down and knees down,” in other words, you’ll roll up your sleeves and cuff your pants, and receive acupuncture in your arms, hands, lower legs, and feet. You’ll get all the personal attention you need, and chances are that you’ll be so relaxed you won’t even remember that there are others in the same room. In fact, some people find that the community setting actually helps them to relax.

Of course, acupuncture is not a solution for all that ails you. Acupuncturist Craig Labadie says, “Of course, I would never claim that acupuncture can cure cancer. However, recent studies have shown that acupuncture is effective for reducing chemotherapy side effects such as fatigue, pain, and nausea.” For those who find relief through acupuncture, the presence of Buffalo Alternative Therapies is definitely an asset.
